Abstract
The objective of this study was to determine whether or not the color green can affect the participants’ envy and dread levels in an Americanized audience after watching a self-made film. The study hypothesized that green could affect their emotions due to the concept of social learn- ing theory, which dictates that if a participant has been exposed to a repeated trend over a long period of time, they would then associate the trend to their emotional reaction (Bandura, 1969). This study used an experimental design, running both a t-test and an analysis of variance. This determined that the hypothesis was disproved since there were four different p-values that all proved to be not statistically significant; for example, the p-value of the initial and final isolated green envy score was 0.9754. Since the sample size was not randomized and smaller than this study had hoped for, the lack of diversity within the population could have impacted the results. While this study was not statistically significant, this does not mean that films do not have an im- pact on society. With the increase of films, there should be an increase in studies that explore the psychological and sociological impacts on film in our modern-day world.
